(March 1, 1941 – April 29, 2009)

KUCHING: Datuk Amar Puan Sri Laila Taib passed away at 3.40pm yesterday, leaving a void that will be felt by all Sarawakians.
She breathed her last at her residence in Demak Jaya, Jalan Bako here after battling a short illness. She was 68.
Her husband, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, children and other family members, including relatives, were by her side.
Her passing was officially announced in a press statement issued by Deputy State Secretary Datuk Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani at 8pm last night.
Morshidi said Laila would be laid to rest at the cemetery in Demak Jaya at 11.30am today.
Members of the public who wish to pay their last respects may do so before 11am.
Laila was born in Poland on March 1, 1941, into a Muslim Polish family. After the war, during which time Germany invaded Europe, Laila’s family decided to migrate to Australia in December 1949.
Her contribution to society started as early as 1953 when she was still a student at the Adelaide Girls’ High School, South Australia, and this continued during her undergraduate years as a medical student at the University of Adelaide in 1959.
She was the acting secretary to the Islamic Society of South Australia and then a religious teacher at the Adelaide Mosque, while working as a civil officer in the Public Works Department of South Australia until 1960.
Laila met Taib when he was studying to become a lawyer in Australia. They were married on Jan 13, 1959 at the Adelaide Mosque.
The couple has been blessed with four children — Jamilah Hamidah, Dato Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir, Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman and Hanifah — and 15 grandchildren.
Laila was a leader in her own right, championing the cause of the less fortunate, orphans and women, among others.
She was also an exemplary Muslim, passionate about the arts and concerned about protecting the environment.
She was always driven towards doing her bit for the betterment of Sarawakians.
The list of organisations that Laila had led or had been involved in, in one way or another, is a lengthy one.
Among them were the Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-Isteri (Sabati), Malaysian Muslim Welfare Association (Perkim), Sarawak Heart Foundation, Malaysian Red Crescent and the Sarawak Orphan’s Welfare Board (Peryatim), which has an orphanage named after her.

Lepas makan my sis sambung lagi shopping. Aduhhhh, sakit dah kaki kamek dua Joe tok. Tapi Joe madah sik hal bah, Biarkan ajak nya shopping. Dekat jam 8 malam baru kamek balit. Penatnya…..

About Madam Kwan:

Local and Western fare in an upmarket restaurant, coupled with above-average service has made Madam Kwan’s quite popular. Go for the local dishes as the Western fare is only average. The nasi lemak is a must-try, with its fragrant rice and not-too-sweet sambal. However, even though the nasi lemak might be the most popular, there are quite a few hidden surprises, such as the prawn hor fun, assam laksa and mushroom chicken rice. If you have given up on dirty hawkers but don’t want to give up on the food (and don’t mind paying a little more than usual), this place is for you. If you feel like eating at Madam Kwan just go to any of the outlets, which is in KLCC, Mid Valley, Bangsar and now in Pavilion.

Hey, Good Looking

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Just want to share about the book I read. Received this novel from my cousin Joanna , July last year. #1 New York Bestselling Author, Fern Michaels. This novel tells about families, friends & love.

“Darby Lane and Russell Gunn had been inseparable friends from their early years in the Horseshoe, Their wonderful Baton Rouge of Southern comforts and childhood fancies, all the way through to graduate-school dreams and beyond. Then the unthinkable happens: a tragic accident takes Russ’s life, and Darby world is shattered. Returning to the Horseshoe in utter despair, Darby clings to the only family she’s ever known; the three wily and colorful aunts who raised her”.

“Her long journey to healing takes holds as Darby begins to see Russ’s Brother Ben through new eyes. Suddenly love blooms in the place of grief, and now, with the help of her aunts, Darby faces the challenge of reuniting Ben with his estranged father, if they can get through the conniving. Calling on the same tender care and patience with which she builds custom dollhouses, Darby begins to create a new life out of her loss and comes to understand that love truly can conquer anything”.

To know more about their love story, get the novel yourself yeah…hehehe.

1st Anniversary

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Dad...so many images come to mind
whenever we speak your name;
it seems without you in our life things
have never been the same.

What happened to those lazy days
when we were just a child;
when our life was consumed in you
in your love, and in your smile?

What happened to all those times
when we always looked to you;
No matter what happened in our life
you could make our gray skies blue?

Dad, some days we hear your voice
and turn to see your face;
yet in our turning...it seems
the sound has been erased.

Dad, who will we turn to for answers
when life does not make sense;
that will be there to hold us close
when the pieces just don't fit?

Oh, Dad, if we could turn back time
and once more hear your voice;
we’d tell you that out of all the dads
you would still be our choice.

Please always know we love you
and no one can take your place;
Years may come and go
but your memory will never be erased.

Chinese Shop Houses

Capturing the authenticity of character of shop houses built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, The Chinese Shop Houses are indicative of the history of growing towns and cities which grew alongside the Chinese wherever they settled. Built to accommodate the business together with the family, Chinese shop house provided generous living space at rear and on the upper floors. Designs of these shops were often elaborate, especially on the upper floors, and architecture of Chinese influence is evident.
